After the success of the inaugural conference, the purpose of the 2nd International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (16 - 18 December, 2009, Orchard Hotel, Singapore) is to provide a venue where researchers, scientists, engineers and practitioners throughout the world can come together to present and discuss the latest achievement, future challenges and exciting applications of intelligent and autonomous robots.

In this paper, an overview of the development of prediction study on the thermal fatigue life of electronic packages is presented, including theore-tical and experimental aspects as well as failure mechanism analysis. A pro-phecy on the research trend in this area is suggested.

University of Illinois Urbana Champaign(Written by InterNano): Reseachers affiliated with Nano-CEMMS at UIUC and Purdue University have created high-performance Nanonet circuits with many potential areas of application in electronics.

The realization of stretchability in electronics is expected to open up the possibility of many new applications ranging from long-term bionic implants and limbs to robotic sensory skins, ubiquitous electronic displays, and large-area electronics. One of the most difficult hurdles in the development of stretchable electronics is the simultaneous achievement of excellent mechanical robustness and electronic performance.

The 2008 International Conference on Intelligent Robotics and Applications (ICIRA 2008) was the first event in this conference series. It was advocated by the International Workshop on Robotic Grasping and Fixturing in June 2007, Wuhan, China. Robotics research, however, involves a wide spectrum of research and applications from the first industrial manipulator to Mars rovers, and from surgery robotics to cognitive robotics. Industrial and real-world applications are the force driving the research frontier further forward.
